In the early hours of today, these was massive barring of MTN lines. My line was affected as well.

Note: Government asked MTN to unbar the lines, however, if your NIN is not properly linked, you might still get barred in future. That is why this post is really about.

I visited the official page for NIN linkages - https://ninlinking.mtn.ng/

After trying to fill the form, the form said my line does not exist.

'I then proceeded to try out the other option which is:

\#996\*NIN#

After doing this I received a message from MTN saying:

Thank you for providing your VNIN \*\*\*023423432332 and consent to update your record with your NIN records.SMS Confirmation will be sent once NIN is verified and linked to your line.

4 hours later, my line started working again, I could make calls and use my line normally.

I then went back to this page https://ninlinking.mtn.ng/

and filled the form again, this time I got OTP and the page showed that my NIN was not linked (and I was sure I linked it years ago on a long queue in MTN office), so I just provided the information again.

And I got the success message below:

After all those steps I got this:

Also using \*996# also confirms that my line has been properly linked with NIN

And last but not the least, I had to put my phone in aeroplane mode and back, this got it working properly again.

@"luhan"#p1164 I heard that there is a place on the mtn app where one can confirm if their nin has been successfully linked.

@"luhan"#p1165 yes there is, MTN provide different ways of doing this.

The issue here is, my line was actually linked before. Something happened, maybe they lost some data.
